4:3 Ratio - The Aqua Collection

Turbulence

TurbulenceThe original version of this photo was a shot I took of the water fountain outside the Grand Hyatt in downtown San Francisco at night. The final version has been subjected to a considerable number of adjustments using Photoshop CS3.

desktop wallpapers - tide

TideI have been a little short of inspiration in July. Coupled with the success of our plastic business cards I have not had a lot of time to concentrate on much of the 3D rendered stuff. Nevertheless, I managed to find enough time to sit down and experiment with Photoshop CS2. The result is a series of images which make great, clean desktop wallpapers. There are four versions in the ZIP file. A blue, aqua, magenta and red version. Enjoy.

desktop wallpapers - caustic

CausticA simple photo taken during our family holiday in Spain this month using a Canon Ixus under natural daylight. I have shifted the hue slightly and toned down the brightness to make it more suitable for use as a deskop wallpaper.

desktop wallpapers - condensed

CondensedMy first wallpaper of 2005, 'Condensed' is based on a photo sent to me by a friend. Photoshop CS was used to crop, clone and alter the focus and colouration of the image. It was also toned down a lot as the original was too bright to be used comfortably as a desktop wallpaper.

desktop wallpapers - splash

Splash (Detail)This wallpaper is a reinterpretation of 'Splash' (which can also be found on this page). I love the original version of 'Splash' but over time I have come to feel that it is a bit 'flat'; not dynamic enough. This image is my attempt at trying to add a little excitement and motion to the original concept.

desktop wallpapers - going up 2003

Going Up! 2003Every now and then I take a look back through my older images to give myself some idea of how far I have progressed. And occasionally I decide to update an earlier piece. The original version of Going Up! (found at the bottom of this page) now looks a little washed out and flat to me so I decided to give it an overhaul.

desktop wallpapers - radial

Radial This image is a spin off of an experiment I was doing to add a radial ripple to the lake in one of my landscape images. I feel it fits in well with the other watery themed abstract images found on this page and makes a stylish desktop wallpaper, especially with Mac OS X or Windows XP.

desktop wallpapers - aqua xp

Aqua XP I have often been criticized for shamelessly promoting Apple Macs (for which I make no apologies) and ignoring the millions of Windows users. I like to think this is not actually the case as all images on PlasmaDesign are equally compatible with Windows machines. But I guess I have never actually created anything solely aimed at Microsoft users. Maybe 'Aqua XP' will go some way to compensating for this. Just hope Big Brother doesn't sue me!

desktop wallpapers - break water

Break Water Although this image fits well into the Aqua Collection, technically it should be in the photography gallery, because it started its life as black and white photo I found on the internet. The original photo depicts a wave breaking from an underwater vantage point. I spent a lot of time cropping, sharpening and adding color to the image. This composition will only be released as 1024x768 pixel wallpaper as to blow up the small photo any further would cause a serious loss in quality.

desktop wallpapers - sub zero

Sub ZeroI have been toying with this image for quite a while. There are a couple of other versions in progress (mainly different coloration). But this is the first I have completed. This image took a surprisingly long time to render given that it is quite a simple image. What complicates the rendering process is the texture and transparency of each cube and the light source behind them.

desktop wallpapers - splash

SplashAbout 2 years ago I created an image called 'Radial' which can be found above. I had wanted to add the 'crown' found in the center of the splash at the time but I didn't really have the ability to execute it convincingly. Two years on and I have learnt a lot of new tricks so I though I would revisit the concept. 'Splash' is the result. I think its the best thing I have done since ' Jacks ' last year. There are several different versions in the ZIP file including a graphite version and a marine variation.

desktop wallpapers - going up

Going Up!Developed using Lightwave 7, this seems to be the most popular desktop wallpaper I have created. I have left a bubble free area on the left for the icons of the Windows user.

desktop wallpapers - marine

MarineI am particularly happy with this piece; not because it is technically complicated (it's not!). Simply because it works so well as a desktop wallpaper, particularly with a Windows XP or mac OS X machine. Try it and you will see what I mean!

desktop wallpapers - aqua

AquaThe favourite image of my fiancee and love of my life, Donna, is 'Going Up!' (to be found above). Having recently redecorated our bathroom, Donna asked me to create 3 images of a similar style to 'Going Up!' which she intends to frame and display on the bathroom wall!!!!! I hadn't originally intended posting any of these to the web but I like this one so much I couldn't resist.

desktop wallpapers - surf

SurfFamily and friends have often asked why I never use my own images for my Apple's desktop wallpaper. I find that most of the images I create tend to be distracting as desktop wallpaper when i am trying to visualize new imagery. So I thought I would try and create something a little more subtle that I was actually comfortable using myself. This is the result.

desktop wallpapers - venturi

VenturiThe second image in my 'bathroom' collection (see 'Aqua's' comments) , I have decided to add this wallpaper to the site. Since mentioning that there are a series of three 'bubble' themed images I have been swamped with emails asking for the 2nd and 3rd to be released.

desktop wallpapers - wall of water

Wall of WaterContinuing my experiment to create a subtle yet stylish wallpaper that works well with Windows XP or Mac OS X, this image is a variation of 'Marine'.

desktop wallpapers - h3o

H3OYet another image with a watery feel. The title is derived from the fact that the bubbles are cubes rather than spheres. I have had a few people comment on how the cubes look a little like ice-cubes rather than bubbles. I will leave it open to your own interpretation.
